One Piece Unlimited Adventure review

Before Unlimited World Red, before episodes 1 and 2 of Unlimited Cruise and SP, there was the first “Unlimited” series. The game was called Unlimited Adventure and this game was the reason why I was happy to have the Wii.

In One Piece: Unlimited Adventure, the motley Straw Hat Pirates find themselves stranded in a mysterious land after a massive island rises to the ocean surface from underneath their pirate ship. Players must assume the role of their favorite One Piece persona and explore this newly formed terrain to uncover the secrets and powers that lie within this isle.

With the Wii remote and Nunchuck controller, players pull, turn and swing to battle nefarious villains using each character’s own unique set of moves including Luffy’s Gum Gum Storm and Nami’s Cyclone Tempo. Gamers can also journey through the exclusive new storyline in Adventure Mode using one of eight Straw Hat pirates or test their skills in Survival Mode and Vs. Mode to unlock more than 40 additional playable swashbucklers.

Unlike the One Piece games we have now, this was the first and only game to have the FUNimation cast. Colleen Clinkenbeard, Chris Sabat, and others were part of this game. What also surprise fans is that this game contained many spoiler moments. This game was released in 2007 and while in that time, most Americans was probably still in the Alabasta arc or Skypiea Arc, while in Japan they were already at the Water Seven/CP9 Arc.

For example:

1. It is revealed to fans that Franky is already a new member of Straw Hat.

2. We were introduced by new moves. Gear 2 and 3, Diable Jambe, 9 Sword Style Ashura, etc.

3. Many new foes were introduced and they were challenging. Aokiji, Rob Lucci, and Whitebeard. (Whitebeard was like the Sephiroth of the game!!!)

The game was much like any other “Unlimited” title, you control one of the Straw Hat members and explore the mysterious island for items and upgrades and you face the memories of the people they each faced. One of the nuisances I have faced is usually back tracking, I had to travel a certain parts of the island and to get one thing and return all the way back to camp. Once you defeat the enemies, they become playable for Vs. mode or Survival, a mode where you face waves of enemies until there is no more. Each character has there own unique abilites like Luffy as a basic fighter for players and utilizing his rubber powers for his advantage and characters like Usopp and Robin are good for long distance.

North America version

Japanese version

If you are One Piece fan and you still got the Nintendo Wii, I highly recommend getting this game. Like I said before, this is the only game with FUNimation dubbed.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX Review

You probably read my previous posts on the Kingdom Hearts games but this review will be about the whole package of the game. This game is the first of the collection to three well known Kingdom Hearts games: Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. The Final Mix version includes exclusive content that was added for the original game only in Japan, such as new weapons, abilities, and enemies. Each game is revamped with high quality resolution for the PS3 systems. Here is what each game offers:

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix

Out of the collection, I immediately went for the first game and I noticed that the game has “Final Mix” on the title. That means in the game we have the exclusive content that were only available in Japan. It still is the same game from the previous version, same plot and characters, but with some extras. First off, some of the enemies are recolored, this includes bosses as well. New keyblades has been added that can be obtained by defeating the secret bosses like the Ice Titan and Sephiroth, in which you receive the Diamond Dust and One Winged Angel Keyblades for the prize. The game also include a secret boss that is from Organization XIII which actually plays a part for the story. The game even included new type of heartless which requires the players to defeat them rather than slicing and dicing. Some may require you to perform combos or kill enemies by using potions. The rewards are rare materials used for synthesizing items. The triangle button is also important when you perform one of Sora’s moves and adds extra damage like Ars Arcanum and Sonic Blade.

Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories

Taking place after the first game, Sora, Donald, and Goofy embark on a quest through Sora’s memories after coming a mysterious figure and being trapped in Castle Oblivion. As Sora and his friends explore the castle, their memories begin to fade.

This game was originally a Game Boy Advance game made in 2004 and later ported the game to PS2 in 2007 (United States was 2008). To those who are new, the gameplay is quite different and focused more on strategy. The only way to combat Heartless or other enemies is using cards (attack, magic, items) with number values. Without going into too much details, the game can be repetitive. The rooms you enter is not much different than the ones in the Game Boy, they are 3-Dimensional. The rooms could either be small and filled with enemies or abundant in a large room depending on your choosing. The in-game cutscenes, Sora talking to the Disney or FF characters, does not have any dialogue, you have to read the texts to proceed the game or skip it. The game is a fun addition to the collection but like I said before, it is repetitive.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

kingdom hearts 358_2days end

This game takes place during the time of Chain of Memories and before Kingdom Hearts II and the focus of the game is Rozas and his time in the Organization XIII. Also in the story we are introduced to Xion, the fourteenth member and just like Roxas she has a keyblade. There is not much to talk about since you can only play the game on the DS and you can only watch the scenes on the PS3. However, the graphics are a big improvement . No longer restricted to the small screen and now equipped with a better resolution. The trophies are really easy to obtain this game.

Unfortunately for players regarding to 358/2 days, rather than playing as Roxas and his time with the Organization XIII, you watch the cutscenes in a all new HD look as opposed to the DS version. Each game includes the trophy system so you can brag about the challenges you have accomplished like playing the game in proud mode or fighting without dying.

This game was made for both returning and new players. The game is good for those who enjoyed it on the PS2 and it can draw in new people who wants to try out this Final Fantasy and Disney crossover game. Everything you remembered and experienced can be replayed again on the PS3. I recommend this game. There is no doubt about that 😉

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods review

While the hype of “Resurrection of F” is still in the air, I want to talk about my opinion towards the previous film: Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. I will not spoil the ending. I don’t own Dragon Ball Z or any other anime!!!

Following the events of the Dragon Ball Z television series, after the defeat of Majin Buu, a new power awakens and threatens humanity. Beerus, an ancient and powerful God of Destruction, searches for Goku after hearing rumors of the Saiyan warrior who defeated Frieza. Realizing the threat Beerus poses to their home planet, the Z-fighters must find a way to stop him before it’s too late. Only Goku, humanity’s last hope, can ascend to the level of a legendary Super Saiyan God and stop Beerus from destroying Earth, and possibly the entire universe!

Unlike the previous movies, This movie is considered canon. Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama was involved with this movie for making the story, the antagonist Beerius, and the Super Saiyan God form. Take all the DBZ movies you remembered, the Dead Zone to Wrath of the Dragons, and toss them away because these movies are noncanon.

One of the surprising moments when this movie was the hype was the news of a Super Saiyan God. In this new form, Goku’s hair and eyes has magenta-red color and his hair reverts back into his base form. Since Super Saiyan 4 was not going to be appear in this DBZ world, many people were speculating what it could be.

I kept hearing online that SSG was basically Kaioken in a transformation state or it resembled the false Super Saiyan form from the Lord Slug movie. Either way, this form was really cool and it had a simple look.

Aside from the transformation and on to the topic of the movie, I really enjoyed this movie; it was funny and it was filled with intense fighting. As an old Dragon Ball Z fan, I couldn’t stop smiling throughout the film. The best part of this movie is that the cast of Dragon Ball Z are back. Christopher Sabat, Sean Schemmel, Kyle Hebert you name it and they are all in this movie. Oh yeah I forgot, Pilaf and his servants are here in this movie causing trouble again.

Beerus is the antagonist of the movie and unlike the villains from the other DBZ movies, Beerus just wants a good fight and pudding. He loves to eat, sleep, and fight. He is the type of guy who will destroy a planet just because someone made him mad. Whis is Beerus’ attendant and serves a guide to Beerus when they were searching for the guy who defeated Frieza.

One of the negative comments I heard about this film is that the use of CGI. The CGI occurs the fight between Goku and Beerus in the movie and some fans may say that it takes away the pleasure of seeing a fight. Also, some fans may feel that this movie have filler which takes away from the time needed for the fights. The movie is mostly focused on the comedy rather than the fights.

This movie had an 2 awesome songs that I couldn’t get enough of. The first song is HERO -Kibou no Uta- by FLOW and they also did Cha-La-Head-Cha-La.

This movie is great for old and new DBZ fans and it will gets you ready for “Resurrection of F”. If you do plan to watch the movie, do not skip the credits. The credits will certainly make you shout and give you a great feeling of nostalgia.
