Otakon News: new manga from Viz! Anime Title release dates from FUNimation!!

At Otakon, anime and manga companies FUNimation and Viz Media has made some suprising news today and here is what they have to offer to us fans!

Ranma 1/2

Announced at Otakon this Friday, Viz Media announced that they will rerelease the anime OVA of Rumiko Takahashi’s series Ranma 1/2 and all the films in one Blu-Ray set in 2017. Ranma 1/2: Big Trouble in Nekonron, China and Ranma 1/2: Nihao My Concubine are sequels to the original anime.

Previously, Viz released the OVAs in VHS in 1998 and 1999 and then later DVD. According to Anime News Network “The series consists of three OVA sets: the six-episode Ranma 1/2 OVA, the two-episode Ranma 1/2 Special OVA, and the three-episode Ranma 1/2 Super OVA.”


Also announced Viz will license and release new manga:

Viz Media describes the story:

Fumi Manjoume, an introverted, bookish teenage girl, is beginning her first year of high school at Matsuoka Girls’ High School. She enters the school year with her heart broken by a previous relationship. At about the same time, she reconnects with her best friend from ten years ago, Akira Okudaira, who is now attending Fujigatani Girls’ Academy as a first-year high school student. As they reconnect, they both deal with their own respective romantic problems, and help each other get through them.

Viz will release the books as 2-in-one omnibus volumes.

Queen’s Quality by Kyuosuke Motomi

Queen’s Quality by Kyousuke Motomi will also be part of Viz’s plan to license the manga and release it. It will be released in 2017 and it serves as a sequel to Motomi’s earlier manga QQ Sweeper.


Viz Media describes the story:

When the secret of the girl who was sealed is unlocked, her monochrome daily life is transformed into a vivid one. Those two from QQ Sweeper will develop in a new battle, a new stage, and a new love!!

Viz will also release the manga adaptation to Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The manga was done by Himekawa.



Announced at Otakon, FUNimation has gain the license and release new anime. They will license the anime film Psychic School and release it for Blu-Ray and DVD combo pack. It will be sold in November 1st. The anime will also be in English Dub.


Spring marks the start of another new school year at a junior high school in Kamakura. A new transfer student, Ryoichi Kyogoku (Daisuke Ono) joins the 8th grade. Kyogoku has a very special proficiency in telepathy and has been ordered by his father to use this ability to scan other people’s minds and take over the school. He instantly gains popularity at school from his good looks and charisma and he sets about taking control of the school. As people begin to fall under Kyogoku’s spell, he covertly manipulates his followers and pushes aside anyone who gets in his way.

With the school almost completely under the control of Kyogoku, only one boy seems unaffected – Seki. Does Seki have what it takes to save everyone from the clutches of mind control?

FUNimation also announced the English Dub cast to the anime Overlord, SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist , Hetalia The World Twinkle , and Rurouni Kenshin live action movie. They will also be released on November.

  1. That Legend of Zelda manga is definitely going to be a blast. I’m reading it online at the moment, but I’ll definitely be picking up the volumes once it comes to America as well. The art is certainly fantastic.
