Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale movie review and experience

[official site synopsis]

In 2022, the world of virtual reality was upended by the arrival of a new invention from a genius programmer, Akihiko Kayaba. Called NerveGear, it was the first full-dive system and with it, came endless possibilities to VRMMORPGs.
In 2026, a new machine called the Augma is developed to compete against the NerveGear and its successor, the Amusphere. A next-gen wearable device, the Augma doesn’t have a full-dive function like its predecessors. Instead, it uses Augmented Reality (AR) to get players into the game. It is safe, user-friendly and lets users play while they are conscious, making it an instant hit on the market. The most popular game on the system is “Ordinal Scale” (aka: OS), an ARMMORPG developed exclusively for the Augma.
Asuna and the gang have already been playing OS for a while, by the time Kirito decides to join them. They’re about to find out that Ordinal Scale isn’t all fun and games…

Story is created by original author Reki Kawahara

Director is Tomohiko Itoh

Friday Funny 98: Switch out those old blades

TGIF!

Thank God it’s Friday! Hello everyone and welcome to another exciting episode of TGIF Friday Funny! This month is the first Friday of March, my favorite month besides December. To start this Friday, I got exciting news to share:

First, we got the Marvel movie release of Logan. This is the third and final film of the Wolverine series. Hugh Jackman becomes an older Logan and he must help his old friend Xavier escape from those who wants to rid of mutants. Joining her, is a mutant little girl with the same powers as Logan, claws on her hands but also with feet. This movie will also be rated-R, which also means that the movie will be filled more violence compared to the past PG-13 films.

Second, Nintendo Switch is finally out! Nintendo Switch will be the next console-hybrid in which players can play on the go or at home with friends. The game will have 32 GB storage, automatically have controllers where you can play with friends, and have more games and even 3rd party games. The console will cost up to $299.

Last but not least, The OWLS have started the March blog tour with the topic of sanctuary. Sanctuary is place or shelter where people can feel safe. It’s our job to discuss the important of sanctuary and how is important with anime. OWL member Shay started the tour on March 1st and Lita did hers on March 3rd. Feel free to support them and spread the world about the OWLS.

Now let’s start this Friday with a bang! Let’s hope this post won’t make mistakes like the Oscars or the confusion like the Tokyo Ghoul news.

Announced at the website, the upcoming Pokemon movie, Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You! (or Pocket Monster: Kimi ni Kimeta) will be released in Japanese Theaters on July 15th. The site also revealed trailer and teaser trailer to the movie which shows an updated animation to Ash (Satoshi) and Pikachu. The movie title is based on the same title for the first episode of the series. Here is the plot of the movie:

The film’s plot tells the story of how Ash (Satoshi) and Pikachu came to know each other. Pikachu was not cooperative toward Ash, but Ash only wanted to be friends with Pikachu. On the day they set out toward Pallet Town (Masara Town), both of them saw a Ho-oh flying and made a vow to someday go and meet it.

Naruto Shippuden

Teased in the 14th issue of Shueisha Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine, there is an announcement that on March 23rd, the current Naruto Shippuden anime arc Konoha Hiden (or Hidden Leaf Story) arc will reach a conclusion. This concluding arc will be the 500th episode of Naruto Shippuden (720 episodes if you count the classic Naruto). However, it’s unknown if this is the official last episode of Shippuden. The last episode will be on March 23rd and with Iruka giving a message to Naruto’s wedding. To those who don’t know, back in December, the franchise animated the epilogue novels in three parts. They animated Sasuke’s story, Shikamaru’s story and the current arc Shugen Biyori (Naruto and Hinata wedding).

One Piece

Taking a break from the main story, it is also been announced from the magazine that the anime One Piece will be entering a whole new original story arc on March 19th. According to the descriptions, the anime arc will include new characters from the marines and they are known as rookies. The Kanji on their jackets mean rookies but it also share the resemblance to the Supernovas, top powerful rookie pirates. The arc is called the Marine Supernova bridge story arc. Here is the anime description states:

The arc will focus on Luffy and those who are with him traveling to rescue Sanji. After Luffy uses up all their food during their journey, the group infiltrate a Marine base to resupply. Suddenly, three rookie members of Aokiji’s crew appear before Luffy.

The anime will feature the character marine characters (these aren’t official names and will most likely change!):

Grant: who has a strong sense of justice. (voiced by Natsuki Hanae who did Ken Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul)

Gundam Wing

Last but not least, anime DVD and merchandise online site announced that they will be selling the classic anime to the popular Gundam franchise called Moble Suit Gundam Wing. Thanks to their publisher and distributer Nozomi Entertainment, the anime will be sold on DVD and Blu-Ray this year. The anime was permiered on 1995 with 49 episodes; however, on 2000, this anime became the first Gundam anime to air in the United States. The anime was previously owned by Bandai Entertainment and released for DVD and VHS. You can watch the anime on Hulu as well with English and Japanese audio. Here is the synopsis:

The story takes place in the year After Colony 195, when war between the Space Colonies and Earth has begun. To give the colonies an edge, they send 5 young soldiers, trained to perfection, to earth in the most powerful of Mobile Suits—Gundams. With their arrival, the tide of the war changes as they battle against the Earth forces and the Colonies of their origin.

Japan news: Possible BTOOOM! season 2 pledge

Unlike other anime that are getting sequels like One-Punch Man and My Hero Academia, another anime could get another season but with an exception.

According to Crunchyroll, Japan recently released an app game based on the video game violent manga series Btooom!, created by Junya Inoue. The app game is called Btooom! Online and this is where 6-8 players can kill each other for chips by using tiny bombs called BIMS. Unlike other series like Sword Art Online, Log Horizon or .hack//Sign (usually pronounced Dot Hack Sign). the story is very brutal and death can be gruesome. Based on scenes I seen, it’s like playing Bomberman and Call of Duty.

This is where things get interesting, Japan mentions that if this app game makes it to the top 5 in the top 5 domestic apps list, they will consider making a second season. The first season of the anime left fans with a cliffhanger and the manga kept going.

The anime was licensed and dubbed by Sentai Filmworks and the books were licensed by YenPress.

This makes you wonder, how would feel if anime companies did something like this. In my opinion, if they did this with Bleach: Brave Souls, if they promised that they will do the Thousand-Year Blood War if this game made it top 5, we could get a conclusion to the anime.

But that’s my thoughts, what do you guys think? Would you willing to support Japan if they did this in your area? What do you think about the Btooom! news?
