Final Fantasy x Terra Wars Collab Quest “Close Encounter of the Terra Kind” Review

Better late than never. In this review, I am going to be talking about a previous event about a Final Fantasy XV crossover. This crossover is about Noctis encountering a girl named Sarah from the upcoming RPG moble game Terra Wars created by Hironobu Sakaguchi’s Mistwalker Corporation. This crossover also included Shadow of the Tomb Raider gear for the player’s female custom character in Comrades. For this review, I am going to be talking about this Terra Wars review and my thoughts. It will have spoilers, so watch out.

How to get this collab quest?

It’s pretty simple to get access to it. In order to team up with Sarah and take on this quest, you need to reach chapter 5 of the main game. It will show up in your map and you have the option to do it. Once you do it and get to the location, quest will begin and you will be placed in a separate story.

Story: Meeting Sarah and the Hiso Aliens

The quest begins with Noctis waking up to a mysterious world and meeting Sarah. At first, Noctis thinks that Sarah is the one that brought him into this world, but what’s more surprising is that Sarah was going to ask the same thing to him. It turns out that these two characters were summoned by a Hiso Alien Elder who is seeking help to save their world from a powerful evil force called the Eroder. The Eroder is trying to destroy worlds and make its own “perfect” world. It’s up to Noctis to team up with this new ally and save the Hiso Alien world.

Characters: Sarah, Hiso Alien, the Eroder, Grumpy Noctis

The new character introduced to this quest is Sarah and she becomes Noctis partner. Sarah, unlike Noctis, is an adventurous girl who can be a bit clumsy and more expressive towards others. In contrast with her, Noctis feels more of a kill joy who takes things seriously. He complains to her when she makes a mistake like almost getting herself killed, didn’t like it when the Hiso children played with him and was very skeptic about the idea of meeting an alien. Overall, Noctis acts serious and negative, but then later changes when as he works together with Sarah. In the later half of the adventure, Noctis admires her fighting style and he thinks of her as a good partner. The Hiso aliens are cute little aliens that only say “Hiso Hiso” and the only one that understands them is Sarah. These characters play a key role to the quest. There’s not much details about them except the fact that you need to help them. The antagonist villain starts off looking like a evil Hiso Alien, but then reveals itself as a dark energy force that can copy someone’s appearance and powers and incorporate their powers to the new host. The Eroder imitates Sarah’s appearance and becomes an evil copy of her and by using her body and its powers, it challenges Noctis and Sarah.

Review

This overall collab quest was fun and funny, but really short and linear. It doesn’t matter if you beat main game and visited this quest as level 99, you are going to be playing this game in a set level and already equipped weapons. Instead of using your Engine Blade, you will be given the Rune Blade and other already set weapons like the lance and daggers. You can also get the royal weapon Blade of the Mystic by giving the Hiso Aliens the right healing items. With these weapons, it’s pretty obvious that you can’t use magic. The gameplay is very simple and the combat style with Noctis and Sarah is quite enjoyable. I did like the interaction with Noctis and Sarah how they became from acting like strangers to comrades. I really like the Hiso Aliens. My weakness is cuteness so I did enjoy hearing them and I also like playing as Sarah for a bit and catching them. The Eroder was pretty interesting, but I can’t help but think of the Dragon Ball Super villain Zamasu Both villains want to seek a perfect world and they end up stealing a body for power. I guess you can say that the Eroder is pretty cliche at the most. Like I said, the world feels pretty linear so it’s impossible to get lost and it leaves very little exploration unlike most events such as the Assassin’s Creed crossover and the Chocobo-Moogle Carnival. In combat wise, I really like the combination attacks and I wish this quest had many fight moments. The ending of the quest was pretty funny and cute and I like seeing Noctis express more emotions when he is feeling flustered or embarrassed.

Overall

So, what’s my overall opinion? This quest was fun and I wish it would have been expanded more. It has a nice story and I really like the character interactions with the main characters. I feel like this game was more about focus on the story and characters than on gameplay. I really loved Sarah and I thought her character was more interesting than Lunafreya. It’s a shame she only appears on this quest because I would love for her to meet Noctis and his friends in his world or have Noctis visit her world. The villain’s role in this game feels a bit underwhelming and the only reason its important because it’s part of the quest. The rewarding part about completing this quest is that you get to unlock the exclusive weapon, Sarah’s Sword. This quest is free to try out and you can get this during chapter 5. What’s your thoughts on this collaboration?
