Vic Mignogna no longer involved with Funimation

If you are aware about the Vic Migogna controversy and the tweets #IStandWithVic or #KickVic, I bring some news from Funimation.

In a tweet sent by Funimation, Funimation announced that the team will no longer be involved with the voice actor for future projects. This means that Vic won’t be lending his voice for anime from Funimation and any current anime that has him in it, will also be recasted. It’s been announced that the anime Morose Mononokean season 2 will replace his character.

If you don’t know the controversy, it happened around after the movie release of Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie. News have spread that the voice actor has been giving unwanted hugs and kisses to his fans and the fans believed it was harassment. These allegations happened in 2008 however! Unfortunately, because this news is showing up, Rooster Teeth fired the voice actor from the series Rooster Teeth as he played as a character named Qrow.

    • Well in my opinion, I don’t like what Funimation did. I know it’s business, but I feel this is going to affect the fans. Vic been helpful for the community in Funimation. He voiced so many characters in anime from Funi like Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist, Broly in Dragon Ball and he was in Ouran Host Club. I get I am biased even though I should be neutral. Overall, it’s kind of sad to hear. With this happening, he won’t be able to be part of the anime industry anymore.

      • With no proof, the best he will get is being ostracised. He can lend his voice to videogames, and characters in movies etc. As you said though, just not in the anime industry.

      • Yeah you’re probably right. He’s done with the anime industry, but he could always try on other things. Look at James Gun. He directed the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but Disney fired him. He moved to Warner Bros and they let him in.

      • I wouldn’t be surprised if he does move to videogames. I think Laura Bailey has moved on to videogames – as she is voicing Kait in the gears of war games. I say that, because I don’t see her name around the anime community as much. Could be wrong though.

Just a side thing, hope me sending you a voice recording on the ps4 surprised you xDD.

      • Oh really? I haven’t heard her name in the anime community for a long time. Maybe you’re right and she probably wants to be in other projects besides anime. I see in Wiki she was in older anime like Dragon Ball Z and the classic Fullmetal Alchemist. Maybe Vic will move on to other projects he could do that requires his voice besides anime.

At first your recording was hard to get, but I was able to listen lol. I didn’t know you could do that in the messages. XD

  1. I’ve heard stories about him since the mid-2000s. Not so much about being a creeper but being a prima donna and egotistical. But based on what Monica Rial and others have said, I imagine the other VAs at Funimation had a lot to say to HR. It was the only logical outcome in my opinion, as no way Funimation was going to say that both fans and their other talents weren’t enough to justify firing Mignogna.

    • Too be honest, I didn’t know about this in mid 2000s. I bet Funimation had to do a lot of thinking when firing Vic especially when they know this is a serious situation and it affects the anime industry and the fans.
