#DBZ30th Discussion: Who Deserved the biggest L in the Android Saga

Here is another Dragon Ball Z post I wanted to write about in honor of the 30th anniversary of Dragon Ball Z. Ever watched an anime and whenever a character does something stupid, you can’t help but do a facepalm and ask yourself “why did you do this?” If you thought Goku was dumb for endangering his universe in order to fight warriors in Dragon Ball Super, you might have forgotten that this is not the first time. When thinking about Dragon Ball Z, whenever I think of dumb moments, I think of the the Android/Cell Saga. Reason being is because a while back watching the abridged series of DBZ and I watched Dragon Ball Z Kai, I noticed as well as from the fans that some of heroes made a lot of dumb mistakes. There four characters I can think of that did the dumbest acts in this saga. In a way it worked out well, but you can’t help but get frustrated. By the time you finish reading this article, comment down below on who deserves the biggest L out of the four.

1. Krillin – Failing to destroy Android 18 and allowing her to get absorbed

Image result for dragon ball z krillin self destruction button

Image result for dragon ball z 18 kisses krillin

Remember the kiss 18 gave to Krillin after she and 17 woke up and beat up Vegeta? Well, what happens when you got a hold of a incredibly small and dangerous button and pressing it means not only you save the world from an absorbing android, but then you say goodbye to the one that gave you a kiss? In this scenario, Cell has absorbed Android 17 and he became Semi-Perfect Cell. He’s not perfect, but he is powerful. In hopes of stopping Cell from becoming perfect, Bulma creates a device that will instantly kill 18 and foiling Cell’s quest on being perfect. Krillin was willing to press the button but he couldn’t do it on the last minute because he had feelings for 18. In result of this, Cell was able to absorb her and become Perfect Cell.

On the plus side of this, thanks to Krillin’s actions, he and 18 ended up getting married and bearing a child. It’s not a total loss.

2. Vegeta – Vegeta allows Cell to be perfect and gets himself almost killed

What hurts more? Losing to someone or losing to someone and having your pride and ego crushed? Vegeta learned (hopefully) that you should not let your pride be the priority in regards to saving the world. After losing to Android 18, Vegeta gets mad that not even his Super Saiyan form was enough to make him strong. Thanks to Goku, he trains with Trunks in the Hypobolic Time Chamber to increase his Super Saiyan powers. Vegeta comes out powerful than before and decides to test his strength against the cocky Semi-Perfect Cell. After realizing Cell is weak, Vegeta can’t help but feel embarrassed. However, Vegeta gets more than he can chew when he hears that Cell promise him that if he can find Android 18 and absorb her, he will be much stronger than before and give Vegeta a challenge. Vegeta allows him to find her and this causes Trunks to intervene. Trunks tries to tell him that it’s a dumb move and this will lead to Earth’s demise, but according to Vegeta, a perfect fight is more than saving the world. Cell gets the Perfect Form he wanted and then tortures Vegeta in a brutal beating; not even Vegeta’s new move Final Flash was enough to stop him. Vegeta then realizes that all of his efforts in being the strongest Saiyan was pointless.

In the positive note, we get to see Cell in Perfect Form and Cell is a really popular villain the Dragon Ball community.

3 Goku – Giving Cell a Senzu Bean and beating up his son Gohan

Image result for cell hugs gohan

Even when the world is in danger, Goku can see this an exciting opportunity to test his might. Cell created the Cell Games in which in 10 days, fighters from all over the world can compete in order to save the Earth. Goku and his friends trained in these days in hopes of getting stronger. When Goku decides to go first, Goku gives Cell a time of his life and they fight each other. Surprisingly, Goku willingly gives up and lets Cell win. He brings out his son Gohan to take his place and tells Cell that Gohan is actually stronger and will give him a better fight. Unfortunately, Gohan hesitantly agrees to join in the ring, but he refuses to fight back and unleash the untapped potential. Goku puts Gohan in a risk and Piccolo tells Goku that Gohan doesn’t love fighting as much as his father. Goku was willing to endanger his son’s life and to give Cell a challenge.

4. Gohan – Gohan punishes Cell and doesn’t kill him when he has the chance

Image result for cell vs gohan

Image result for goku sacrifice cell

Just because someone doesn’t like fighting, doesn’t mean they are weak. Android 16 talks to Gohan and tells him that fighting is not a sin and not everything will get resolve through words. After Cell kills 16, Gohan gets enraged and transform into Super Saiyan 2. Gohan uses new powers to kill all the Cell Jr’s. that were hurting his friends and he beats up Cell. Gohan beats him so hard, that Cell vomits out Android 18 and he reverts to his Semi-Perfect form. Goku tells Gohan to finish Cell off and end his life, but Gohan decides to refuse his father’s wishes and wants to torture Cell. In desperation, Cell compresses all of his energy and becomes a living bomb. Cell plans to kill himself and the world. Seeing that Gohan should have listened to his dad, he falls to the ground angry. Goku decides to save the Earth by sacrificing his life. He uses Instant Transmission and warps to King Kai’s Planet and this causes Cell to explode and kill Goku and King Kai. If Gohan would have listened to Goku, Goku would still be alive.

So what do you guys think? Who deserves to be first place on getting the biggest L?

Disney XD series Spider-Man plans comeback with new arc!

See the source image

Does anyone remember this cartoon series Marvel Spider-Man? This cartoon appeared in 2017 and it supposed to be a replacement to the finished series Ultimate Spider-Man. It may not be like Ultimate Spider-Man and Spectacular Spider-Man, but it’s Spider-Man! The series is currently on season 2, but the series went on a hiatus that started on August 2018. However, according to Spider-Man voice actor Robbie Daymond, the series is planning to come back and the news site Newsrama states that the series will also be entering new story arcs such as the Superior Spider-Man and the newly introduced Goblin War.

According to VP of Animation and Family Entertainment, Cort Lane made a comment in a interview with Newsrama that with no surprise, the series will continue into the Superior Spider-Man story, but then also it will have Peter Parker come across the story arc known as the Goblin War. They wanted to split these stories into sections these seasons. So far, there is no release date for the return of Marvel Spider-Man.

If you don’t know what is the Superior Spider-Man story, according to the interview, Cort Lane tells that the story is based on a Spider-Man comic book arc where Spider-Man’s enemy Dr. Otto Octavius steals Spider-Man’s body by transferring his mind into Peter’s body and accessing his memories. Peter’s mind is swapped into Otto’s dying body in result. Now that Otto has Peter’s body, he knows about his identity and decides to prove himself that he can be a better Spider-Man by using the powers of Spider-Man combined with justice and his intelligence.

Cort states that the upcoming story and Goblin War arc won’t have the dark elements from the comic books, but it will have some emotional moments where a sacrifice will be made. In the cartoon version, Otto, inside the Living Brain robot, successfully steals Peter’s body and puts Peter’s mind and soul in the destroyed Living Brain robot. This is where the series took the hiatus and this is where Cort focused on other Marvel cartoons like Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel Rising.

Happy 30th Anniversary Dragon Ball Z – My top 5 characters I wish to see canon in Dragon Ball

See the source image

Remember the news that Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama was involve with making the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly? Because of his involvement, fans rejoiced and saw that after all these years, the antagonist Broly was going to be canon and be part of the Dragon Ball universe. Not only him, but we also get see characters like Bardock, Gogeta and even Goku’s mother Gine as canon; Gine first made her appearance in the manga Jaco: The Galactic Patrolman manga in a special chapter called Dragon Ball Minus. This is could be good or bad news since this means that Toriyama retconned the story. Meaning, we don’t see Bardock’s old friends from the movie Bardock: The Father of Goku or we don’t see his Super Saiyan transformation Episode of Bardock. Regardless of the changes, fans was still happy to see these characters canon and part of the main story. Just like I mentioned before with Bardock, this also means that Toriyama changed Broly. In the DBZ movies, Toriyama did designed Broly but he wasn’t part of the past movies and Broly was just another noncanon villain in the DBZ movies like Cooler or Lord Slug. Broly made more appearances in three movies due to popularity and seeing him come back as canon, he is involved with the main story. Now here is the main topic of this post: What if Toriyama said today that he wanted to do another Dragon Ball movie and bring back and character that was originally noncanon? What if Dragon Ball Super comes back and he wants to reintroduce a character he designed and be in the Dragon Ball Super? I have five characters in my mind that I would love to see return. These characters are from the past DBZ movies and filler arcs of Z. This is also a tribute to the 30 years of the Dragon Ball Z anime! Happy Anniversary Dragon Ball Z and thank you for the characters and story!

*Warning: Spoilers!

5. Pikkon (Dragon Ball Z)

See the source image

Remember that epic fight with Goku and Hit in Dragon Ball Super where Goku used Kaioken and Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan together? Before that happened, Dragon Ball veterans saw something similar in the classic Dragon Ball Z anime. In Dragon Ball Z, this anime did have filler that was not part of the original manga. Taking place after the events of the Cell Games, Goku is dead and rather than training with King Kai, he decides to part in tournament where all the Kais come together and pit their strongest warriors and see who is the strongest, in thus this leads to the Other World Tournament episodes.  In this filler, Goku and Pikkon are faced against each other and both are equally matched. Despite Pikkon being stronger than Frieza and even Cell, Goku has an ace up his sleeve. He transform into Super Saiyan and mixed his attacks with Kaioken for a boost.

What I am trying to say is that even though Pikkon is not noncanon, I did like him and I really like the friendship with him and Goku. I am also impressed how strong he is. It was mentioned in Bio Broly that when Broly died, King Kai wanted Goku and Pikkon stop Broly rampaging in the Other World. If Pikkon ever comes back, I would love to see him Super where Goku could team up with Goku and fight with dead warriors for training.

4. Tapion (Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragons)

See the source image

He didn’t show up in the filler episodes but he appeared in the noncanon Z movies. Tapion is a new character introduced in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Wrath of the Dragon,. He is a mysterious hero who is on a quest to prevent the powerful monster Hirudegarn from destroying the world. I pick him because I like friendship between Kid Trunks and him. In the movie, Trunks becomes interested in him and sees that looks like a very cool hero and Tapion soon begins to like him since he reminds him of his younger brother who helped prevented the rampaging monster from rampage years ago. In the end of the movie, the monster slain and as Tapion returns him home, he gives powerful sword to Trunks. In the credits, we see Trunks wielding a sword and slaying Frieza after the events in Namek. I would love to see Toriyama bring back Trunks again and go over the details on how did he get the sword. I could possible see him referred or at least explained in a movie focusing only on Trunks.

3. Bojack (Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound)

See the source image

Remember this muscled green giant? Dragon Ball Z: Bojack Unbound introduced Bojack and his minions and we got see how scary they are. It is mentioned by King Kai that all four Kais sealed Bojack and his servants because they were evil and they had too power to be stopped in the galaxy; however, after King Kai died from Cell because of Goku, the seal is broken Bojack and his crew escapes and decides to have fun by attacking Earth. With Goku out of the picture, it’s up to Gohan and the Z-Warriors to stop him. If Bojack ever comes back, I would love to see him in the sequel/Dragon Ball Super anime. In the manga, DBS is still going and Goku and Vegeta are faced against a powerful energy stealing foe called Moro and the only one who can match against him is Majin Buu. What if while Goku and Vegeta are away, what if there is new threat and Gohan is Earth’s last resort. It was mentioned a while back that Toriyama planned to have Gohan to be the main protagonist in Dragon Ball Z when it first started, but then he became a side character since fans loved Goku more than Gohan. I would love to see Gohan in action and show fans that he still the same kid who once saved the world from Cell. He did come back strong in Dragon Ball Super in the last arc, but I would like to see him fight in a battle of life and death in the same way in Android Saga.

2. Slug (Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug)

See the source image

Goku can’t catch a break with evil Namekians. In Dragon Ball Z: Lord Slug, Goku and his friends must stop the evil Namekian Lord Slug from freezing the planet. In a similar way like Evil King Piccolo in the Dragon Ball classic anime, Goku is faced against a young Lord Slug in his prime and just like King Piccolo, he is evil to the core and will do what it takes to kill anyone stopping his goals. Goku barely made it out alive when he almost tapped into a Super Saiyan form and Gohan using his whistling skills to weaken Slug. Just like my point with Gohan and Bojack, what if the earth needed Piccolo’s protection. I could see an arc in Dragon Ball Super where Piccolo teams up with Gohan and fight against Slug. Not only Piccolo would get the spotlight, but I would love to see the teacher-student relationship with Gohan and Piccolo.

1. Cooler (Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revenge)

See the source image

Just like Broly, Cooler is another movie character that gets a lot of popularity from Dragon Ball Z fans. Cooler made his appearance in the movie Dragon Ball Z: Cooler’s Revenge and then came back again as a metal version called Metal Cooler in Dragon Ball Z: The Return of Cooler. Cooler is the older brother of Frieza and just like him, he is heartless. He comes to Earth to find the one who killed his brother and he is not doing this to avenge him, he wants to kill to honor the family and his own pride. It’s mentioned in the movie that he was already planning to kill Frieza to shut him up. Cooler will go beyond and even try to kill Goku’s friends in order to see him go mad. Cooler has gotten a lot attention even in the video games that he was added in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 in the PS2 and he came back in the Dragon Ball Heroes anime spinoff where he learned how to transform into Golden Cooler. He is also a DLC character in FighterZ along with Broly and Bardock. In Dragon Ball Super, he doesn’t show up at all and the only Frieza-like character we got was Frost in Universe 6. I would love to see story focusing on Frieza and his race. We could learn about his relationship with his brother and his father King Cold.

That’s my top 5 characters I want to see canon in Toriyama’s movies and Dragon Ball Super. What about you guys? Do you have any characters that you want to be canon? Comment down below.

Friday Funny 210: Thano’s “End”

TGIF!

Thank God it’s Friday! Welcome back to another episode of Friday Funny from yours truly, Matthew. Wow! It has been a whole year since we seen Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War movie in 2018. It was the biggest superhero crossover cinematic experience. It took 10 years of the making but we were able to bring characters like the Avengers, Dr. Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther and even Spider-Man in one movie. Here we are in 2019 and we will have one last battle with the villain Thanos. In Avengers: Endgame, the remaining heroes such as the Avengers, Ant-Man, Captain Marvel and Nebula survived against Thano’s finger snap. Thanos has erased half of the population in the galaxy; this means even half of the heroes disappeared. It’s up to these surviving heroes to work together again and fight Thanos. This movie is going to be about 3 hours long so I hope you empty out the bladder. Also, there won’t be any post credits scenes from I am hearing online. If you are still alive after seeing an epic 3 hour long movie, get ready for summer for the conclusion of phase 3 MCU movies Spider-Man: Far From Home. Besides Marvel news, I recently got Dragon Ball Super: Broly and I am enjoying this movie. I am hoping to review this movie in the future. As we get ready for May, get ready for upcoming live-action movies like Detective Pikachu and Aladdin. This month been busy with Avengers, Shazam! and Hellboy, but next month will also be busy.

Now with this said, let’s kick start this weekend! No spoilers please!

Cheers to the Infinity Saga from Phase 1 to Phase 3:

Phase 1:

Phase 2:

Phase 3:

This will also be the last movie to have a Stan Lee cameo. It’s been an amazing time watching these movies and seeing the creator of Marvel appear in his own creations. Not just the MCU films but also in Sony and Fox movies. I found this interesting fan edit of Marvel and the ending of Toy Story 3. It’s a series of posts that will hit your feels more than Infinity War.

Good bye and excelsior!

Lupin the 3rd Part V joins Toonami!

Even though the news about Monkey Punch is depressing, we should look at the bright side and see that his creation is still admirable and his work will live on in the anime Lupin the 3rd. It’s been announced yesterday that Toonami will be adding the anime Lupin the 3rd Part V in June 15th. It’s unknown what time slot will the anime be on, but Lupin is back on the schedule. Part V takes place after the events of Part IV and the story will focus on Lupin’s friends and foes in France.

Get ready for another character to join Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. It’s been revealed in Japan’s V Jump magazine that Xenoverse 2 will be adding Super Saiyan God Vegeta in the game. He’s expected to be added as a DLC character in June. Super Saiyan God Vegeta first appeared in the movie Dragon Ball Super Broly movie. Not to be confused, Super Saiyan God form is the red hair transformation and it’s not Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan which is commonly called Super Saiyan Blue. Super Saiyan God made its debut in the movie Dragon Ball Z Battle of Gods. Super Saiyan God Vegeta will be playable in June.

Dragon Ball FighterZ

Also revealed in the same issue, it’s been revealed that Dragon Ball FighterZ got an updated news on the upcoming DLC character Kid Goku (DBGT). Dragon Ball FighterZ will add Kid Goku in the game in May. This version of Goku is from the series Dragon Ball GT.

Funimation sued! Vic Migogna sues the company for defamation

See the source image

WARNING: The following news will be unbiased! I will not voice my opinion in this news. If you are going to comment about your opinion towards Vic Migogna or Funimation or anything related, be careful of any potential commentators. Let’s be civil. Once again, I am just sharing you the news and I will not voice my opinion.

Things are reaching the climax for this Vic Migogna controversy or more like the endgames for #IStandWithVic and #KickVic people. It’s been reported that voice actor Vic Migogna has filed a million dollar claim towards the anime company Funimation and he is suing the co-workers and voice actors Monica Rial, Jamie Marchi, and Ronald Toy. He is suing them for defamation, interference in existing contracts and prospective business relations, and civil conspiracy.

To make a long story short about the Vic Migogna controversy, Polygon mentioned that this news occurred this year near the end of January right around when Funimation released Dragon Ball Super Broly the movie. Vic was the voice for the returning character Broly. In Twitter, many people created the #KickVic hashtag and stated that Vic was harassing his fans with unwanted kisses and hugs; some went as far as saying he violated his own workers. However, the other side known as #IStandWithVic states that Vic is innocent and these allegations are false because they lack proof. Regardless, these accusations has caused Rooster Teeth to fire Vic and removed him from the series RWBY and Funimation did the same and took him off The Morose Mononokean 2 and removed him from future projects. Funimation also removed bonus features in the DVD release of Dragon Ball Super Broly where Vic got an interview. Anime conventions also removed hum however, he did get reinstated in Kamehamecon this month.  Here is what I found from Polygon:

In the lawsuit, Mignogna claims that Rial, Marchi, and Toye directly interfered in his business affairs and that all the statements they made against him are false. “The repeated attention that Monica, Jamie, and even Funimation’s agents, employees or business partners, gave [Twitter user] hanleia’s and Marzgurl’s accusations caused their Tweets to ‘go viral,’” the lawsuit suggests. In the descriptions of the situation, Mignogna’s claim suggests that the defendants have continued “carpet-bombing” him on Twitter, through continued discussion of the allegations.

It’s been mentioned that Vic has hired a lawyer named Ty Beard of Beard Harris Bullock Hughes and he is hoping for “monetary relief over $1,000,000.00 in addition to other relief to which Mignogna “may be justly or equitably entitled.” Variety has posted up the documents for the court.
