In case you missed it, Funimation got a lot of trouble in the recent episode of Kaguya-sama: Love is War season 2 due to a translation the subtitles. Despite Kaguya-sama being an Aniplex title, Funimation has the exclusive rights to stream the second season of the anime. You can watch the first season of this anime anywhere, but season 2 can only be watched on Funimation.
Reported on May 11th from Nicchiban, Funimation got into trouble from fans when one of the recent episodes included an anti-coronavirus conversation with the characters. Many fans pointed fingers at Funimation for tampering the official translations. Here is what the original said:
Original: “何でそんな遠い所にいるんだ?” (“Why are you staying away from me?”)
Original: “もちろんです!50センチ以内の接近も禁止します!” (“Of course! I will forbid being within less than 50 cm each other.”)
In recent spark of news, Aniplex wrote on Twitter acknowledging the translations and will revise it. This error was in episode 5.
What do you think about this news? Do you think the fault was solely on Funimation? Aniplex? or do you think this is just an overreaction from fans? Does this translation bother you?
