To anyone who is hooked on the manga series Act-Age, I got bad news for you. According to Crunchyroll, the manga writer, Tatsuya Matsuki, for the story Act-Age was arrested on August 8th. According to CCTV footage, surveillance reveals that Matsuki was alleged sexual assaulting junior high school girls. Despite the manga being completed, the Japanese Weekly Shonen Jump announced that future manga books will not be releeased and there won’t be any reprints of already released manga. In Japan, digital manga in the markets will not be available and any pre-orders on merchandise or books will be given a full refund. In America, Viz Media recently delisted Act any future volumes in English and there won’t be any new chapters.
I’m shocked as you are.
Not shocked so much as saddened. There are problematc aspects to Japanese culture that I have blogged about.
It is kind of sad to see a talented writer go to this path. Reading this reminds me of the news about the creator of Rurouni Kenshin.
And the middle aged men who hire schoolgirls for “companions.” And a bus/train system so rife with molestors it has become an anime trope. And on and on.
Dang that’s disturbing.
