In the anime community, it looks like Funimation will have to say goodbye to a voice actor because of his actions. In case you haven’t been online, voice actor Chris Thurman is in deep trouble. It has been reported by news site Bounding Into Comics, that the voice actor has been sending explicit sexual pictures of himself to underage fans. The news of him started around October 18th, when conversations of him and these underage fans was posted online. In this moment, he mentions that he “unintentional” sent pictures of his genitals to one of his fans. After the conversations was leaked to the public, Chris Thurman took it upon himself and claims responsibility for his actions.
He mentions in his tweet to not harass any collaborators for they were not part of this controversy. According to Bounding into Comics, Thurman was involved in many anime such as My Hero Academia, Tokyo Ghoul:re and Attack on Titan. In One Piece, he voiced the gladiator bull Ulcy during the Dressrosa arc.
Chris Thurman is the second English Voice actor removed from Funimation due to being caught in sexual crimes. The first one was Scott Freeman who was caught in sexual misconduct in 2014. Freeman was the former voice of Issei from High School DxD. According to Bounding Into Comics, despite Freeman doing these crimes, he continued to work with Funimation until 2015 and then Funimation stated they were not aware of his actions.
