Can you believe that 2021 is going to mark 50 years of the anime franchise Lupin III or also called Lupin the 3rd? Lupin the Third started as a manga created by Monkey Punch and it became a successful anime in 1971. With six TV shows and twenty-seven TV specials, Lupin is still strong and beloved by fans in Japan and all over the world. Today, the anime studio company TMS Entertainment made some announcements to commemorate the 50 years of the anime. Here are the known announcements from TMS Anime:
- A special 50 Episodes countdown: A planned collection of curated episodes of the Lupin the Third anime in which can be viewed in the official TMS Entertainment YouTube Channel.
- Digital movies and OVAs in Amazon Prime Video: Anyone who uses Amazon Prime Video will be able to watch well-known Lupin titles later this year.
- Lupin the 3rd: Italian Game
- Lupin the 3rd Part 4
- Lupin the 3rd: Dragon of Doom
- Aside from the 4K UHD of Castle of Cagliostro, TMS is planning to release some upcoming titles in March 30th. Lupin the Third: The Woman called Fujiko Mine and Lupin the Third: Missed by a Dollar are coming to Blu-ray.
- The first animated movie of Lupin, Lupin the 3rd: Mystery of Mamo, is available in Amazon Prime Video.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Lupin. Especially that theme tune. I do hope some these make it to the UK too.
Yeah I really like the world and adventures of Lupin. It’s never-ending story of adventures. I sure hope they continue to spread out to other places. I hear this anime is more popular in European places like Italy.
I wonder if that’s why Lupin III Part 3 was set in Europe? Great series, that one.
Maybe. I haven’t fully seen all of the Lupin anime, but I noticed a pattern in parts 4 and 5. Part 4 mostly took place in Italy and Part 5 was somewhere in France. I am not sure, but those parts had the characters in Europe.
I heard that a new Lupin the 3rd movie came out recently. Only in CGI animation this time like “Earwig and the Witch”. Ever hear about it?
Earwig and the Witch? I think I heard a bit of it. I heard it was a CGI anime series only on HBO Max.
