Friday Funny 419: Your Name is Suzume

TGIF!

Thank God it’s Friday! Welcome everyone for another awesome Friday, or you may call it, Friday Funny. If you are reading this, you will be given memes with no to little interruptions. The only interruptions I have to give is just some news. Lucky for you, today’s news is going to be short. This is the last Friday of April and next week is May. April has been one heck of a month. The Super Mario Bros movie is in theaters and it’s already racking over $800 million dollars world wide. This Mario movie is rising up to the top everyday and as for someone like me to see this movie, this was worth the money. I wonder if we will get a sequel. If you have time to see another movie, I recommend watching Suzume. Directed and created by Makoto Shinkai, Suzume tells the story of a young teenage girl named Suzume (voiced by Nicole Sakura) who finds a man named Souta (voiced by Josh Keaton) who is looking for a special door. These two join together and try to close these special doors to prevent a cataclysmic catastrophe for Japan. If you  seen Shinkai’s movies such as Your Name and Weathering With You, you will love it. I seen this movie with my girlfriend last weekend and we both were in awe. We watched it in English Dub however. If you are interested to seeing this movie, feel free to watch it in dubbed or subbed whenever you go to the movies.

Friday Funny 418: Season 1, Episode 10

TGIF!

Thank God it’s Friday! Welcome back for another episode of Friday Funny. I hope everyone is having a good week. We finally made it to Friday and it’s time to unwind and enjoy the spring weather. If you are new to this website and you’re visiting, I want to say hello and welcome to Matt-in-the-Hat! I write news and reviews in the world of anime, video games and anything in the nerd culture. I don’t have much big news to recap, so I am just going point out some highlights I found interesting. Nintendo’s animated movie The Super Mario Bros. Movie has reached over a million dollars in the past few weeks of April. It’s ironic if you think about it, because last year we got Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in theaters and that movie killed the opening weekend and was a big seller. This year we got Nintendo and Illumination Studios to give us a Mario movie and it’s earning enough money to buy Princess Peach’s castle. Speaking of Sonic, Paramount announced that the upcoming TV series, Knuckles the Echidna series has started production. There is no release date yet, but we can say that we’re getting this series before we get Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie. The Knuckles series will take place after the events of the second movie and it will focus on Knuckles teaching Wade (Tom’s friend and sheriff coworker) on how to be strong like an Echidna warrior. The series will bring actors from the movie and this includes Idris Elba returning to voice Knuckles.

Manga News: Assassination Classroom manga removed from Florida and Wisconsin Schools

Pin by 星子光 on All | Assassination classroom, Anime, Assasination classroom

Anybody remembered the time where the series Death Note caused trouble for students for bringing a fake Death Note notebook in school? It looks like this Florida school is not going to let kids read this alien comedy book series. It’s been reported by The Florida Standard news site that numerous members from a conservative advocacy group are removing Yusei Matsui’s manga series Assassination Classroom from Gifford Middle School, located in eastern Florida. Similarly to Florida, The Elmbrook School District has also removed the series from their digital library due to parent complaints. Reason being why the call of action is due to the manga displaying “violent and sexual content”. Jennifer Pippin, chair of the Indian River County chapter of Moms for Liberty, commented that the manga contain images of students obtaining firearms and using them to kill their teacher. “We don’t want students to think it’s OK to kill their teachers,” Jennifer Pippin said while describing the manga. A group named Citizens Defending Freedom organization commented that the violence and the sexual themes in the series should be glorified or promoted in school.

Friday Funny 417: Fantasy and Realism can exist together

TGIF!

Thank God it’s Friday! Welcome back for another episode of Friday Funny. I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. If you’re like me who had less sleep hours, but had two family events, you probably crashed in bed by the end of the weekend. Did you eat a lot of chocolate and peeps? You made any colorful eggs? Now that Easter is finished, there is no more holidays for the month of April until we get to May. In recent news, I went and saw the movie The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and I was amazed to see how much love was made into this movie. The actors did a good job on the characters and I loved the Nintendo Easter Eggs and references in the movie. I am not going to spoil the movie, but stay after the credits for some post credit scenes. Did you see this movie? Would you say it was good as the previous movie adaptations such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Detective Pikachu? This movie is already racking over $100 million dollars this past weekend and it already topped Frozen’s world record. In anime news, Demon Slayer is already streaming the new season The Swordsmith Village arc. If you’re like me and saw the first episode early in theaters, you already got a taste of what to expect for Tanjiro and Nezuko. If you seen the first episode, what did you think of the arc’s beginning? Also, speaking of anime, this weekend is Makoto Shinkai’s newest anime film release titled Suzume. If you are a fan of Weathering With You and Your Name, this is a movie you should check out.

The movie originally came out on Wednesday, but now you can choose to watch this weekend with friends, family or go solo. Happy 9 Years of Blogging! Funko March Haul Special!

9 Year Anniversary!

I can’t believe it’s been nine years since I started this blog. Originally, this was intended for school work in an English Writing course. After I got done with this course, rather than deactivating this account, I disappeared until I suddenly decided to use this for not just for school but for my own interest. Through out the years in college and today, I got to enjoy sharing my interest with anime, video games, memes and whatever popular in the entertainment world. I met so many writers and I strive myself to write more often and tackle topics in which would be out of my comfort zone. I besides writing reviews and news, I do have ideas I want to discuss and have open discussions. I don’t know what the future holds for me and this website, but I do intend to write not just for my readers, but for a place where I can have a voice. When I am offline, I am meek and I can’t raise my voice in a populated world; however, when I am here, I can speak what comes in my mind and have a place in the world. I am the average person in the real world, but here, I am an extraordinary writer. Thank you, everyone for your support.

It’s been a while since I did a Funko Pop Haul and the last one I did was in September. I finally awaken and got a figure to join my collection in the month of March.

152. Casey Jones from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (PX Previews Exclusive)

I got this Casey jones in the same day where I went to see the anime movie Demon Slayer: To the Swordsmith Village. This Casey Jones figure is based on the comic book version and I got it from GameStop. Based on the box, it is a PX Previews exclusive. I don’t know much about PX Previews, but I do like to see the comic versions of the TMNT characters.
