Like everyone said, it’s been a rough couple of days for Marvel and Disney fans. Just in case are barely reading this, it was announced by Disney and Sony that Sony was planning to remove Spider-Man from the MCU films because of a disagreement of a financial deal. The deal was to let Sony Spider-Man be part of the Disney movies involving characters such as Iron Man and the other Avengers. The money Sony made would also give a percentage to Disney and give them permission for merchandising. However, after the success of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Disney later on wants to change this deal where they get 50/50 of money from Sony. This led to dispute where have been caught in the middle. To picture this situation, Sony and Disney are filing a divorce and Sony is going to take Spider-Man back.

Now, we are getting confirmation from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and even actor Tom Holland that Spider-Man is leaving Disney.

In a interview with with EW, Spider-Man actor Tom Holland finally talks about his feelings about this news and the future:

“Basically, we’ve made five great movies. It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life. It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”

Kevin Feige also got something to say about this as well:

“We got to make five films within the MCU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers. It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever. We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”

Here is some Spider-Man facts:

  • Spider-Man jumped into the MCU world starting in 2016’s Captain America’s Civil War movie.
  • In 2017, Spider-Man got his solo movie in Spider-Man: Homecoming. It had Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man/Tony Stark, Happy as John Favreau and it had Michael Keaton as Vulture.

Unboxing: Alita Battle Angel Motorball Gift Set

This alt value should not be empty if you assign primary image

Back in February, there was a sci-fi movie called Alita Battle Angel that got a lot of attention for both sci-fi lovers and manga fans. Alita Battle Angel is based on the manga created by Yukito Kishiro. James Cameron brought this cyberpunk series into the big screen and it got so much love for both audiences. I saw this movie with my brother and we both loved the action of the movie. When I heard the movie was released in DVD, I was ready to place the order. Depending on where you buy your set, some places offer some exclusive goodies like a steelbook case. In Wal-Mart they had a gift set bundle for those who wanted more. Walmart was selling the movie with the DVD, Blu-Ray, Digital and a keychain Pop Funko figure. This set is called the Motorball Gift Set.

As Pop collector, I wanted that Alita figure. In this post, I am here to share you pictures.

I plan to watch this movie and review it in the future. With my Alita keychain pop figure, she is number 32.

This is a random picture but after the movie, I wanted more Alita. Here is a picture dedicated to the series. I am hoping to read the manga and get ready for a possible sequel. The pin is from Rightstuf when they were giving away Alita Battle Angel pins on February in partnership with Kodansha, the manga company who license the English manga.

With Avengers: Endgame done and as we get ready for Phase 4, we’re going to be seeing some new heroes joining the MCU world. Coming to theaters November 6th, 2020, we’re going to be getting a movie about a group of powerful humanoids whose duty is to defend Earth. These people are the Eternals. The Eternals is going to be playing in theaters in Fall 2020. Today in D23, Marvel Studios has revealed the main cast for the group and their roles of The Eternals. Some of these actors is from the well known series Game of Thrones, The Walkind Dead and even some Marvel titles.

Richard Madden as Ikaris

Image result for the eternals ikaris

Game of Thrones’ Madden will portray the multi-talented, immensely powerful Ikaris. As one of the most prominent Eternals, Ikaris often serves as the leader of his people and an envoy to the outside world. Ikaris’ true name is unknown. He adopted his current name in tribute to his deceased son Icarus, a boy who inspired the doomed mythological hero.

Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo

Image result for the eternals kingo

Nanjiani, known for his stand-up act and comedic roles up until now, will play Kingo – an Eternal from a small mountainous village in 16th century Japan who, in the comics anyway, has parlayed his Samurai skills into a career as a movie star.

Lauren Ridloff as Makkari

Image result for the eternals makkari

The Walking Dead’s Ridloff will be playing the first deaf superhero in the MCU. Makkari is a speedster engineer in the comics who early humans thought was the Olympian god Hermes.

Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos

Henry (Atlanta, Spider-Man: Into the Multiverse) has landed the role of Phastos, an ambivalent weapon-smith who ancient humans once connected to Mount Olympus’ Hephaestus.

Salma Hayek as Ajak

Hayek is the mighty Ajak, a centuries-old champion who humans have previously mistaken for the Aztec deity Quetzalcoatl.

Lia McHugh as Sprite

McHugh will play Sprite, the impish prankster Eternal who physically resembles a child and is often admonished for overly playful behavior.

Don Lee as Gilgamesh

South Korean actor Ma Dong-seok (Train to Busan) – aka Don Lee – has joined the cast as Gilgamesh – aka The Forgotten One. Gilgamesh is the physically strongest Eternal, once shunned by the other Eternals.

Angelina Jolie as Thena

Image result for the eternals thena

Jolie is playing scholar and warrior Thena, who’s basically The Eternals’ answer to the Greek goddess Athena. In fact, in the movie it could be that the Eternals ARE the beings who humans saw as Greek gods, whereas in the comics they’re separate entities, and the Eternals started out as the official representatives of Greek gods on Earth

Kit Harington as Black Knight

Image result for the eternals black knight

Game of Thrones star Kit Harington has signed on to play Black Knight, who will be debuting in the Eternals movie. Not an Eternal himself, Black Knight is the inheritor of a chivalrous mantle and the wielder of the magical Ebony Blade. In the comics, the moniker (and castle) were passed down to Dane Whitman (Harington), from his uncle Nathan, who, unbeknownst to Dane, was an evil version of the Black Knight. Black Knight fought alongside the Defenders and was also a member of the Avengers.

Gemma Chan as Sersi

Chan (who already appeared in the MCU as Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel) and Keoghan (Chernobyl) are reportedly in talks to join the film. Their actual roles are unknown right now though Chan seems like a perfect fit for Sersi, a powerful Eternal who can manipulate matter and inspired the Greek mythological character Circe thanks to her encounters with ancient hero Odysseus.

Are you excited to see this movie next year? Do you know about the Eternals?

Joker movie rating finally confirmed

Image result for joker

Remember that DC movie Joker? Warner Bros and DC comics with movie director Todd Phillips are going to create a movie based on Batman’s iconic villain, the Joker. Unlike the DC movies such as Aquaman and Wonder Woman, this will be its own separate film set in a realistic world. In other worlds, it’s not part of the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) also known as Worlds of DC. The one who will play as the Joker will be actor Joaquin Phoenix. It’s been confirmed by the official website that the movie finally has an official rating. The movie Joker will be rated R for “strong bloody violence, disturbing behavior, language and brief sexual images.”

Joker comes out on October 4th 2019.

Plot Synopsis:

Director Todd Phillips “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Netflix review – A One Year Reflection

Image result for netflix

If you remembered my old post about me getting Netflix, it’s been about a whole year since I became a subscriber to Netflix. I actually signed up on April 2018, but you get the picture. I wasn’t sure if I should do a review on Netflix or a reflection post, so I decided to combine both into one. There won’t be spoilers obviously. I will tell you what movies and shows that I enjoyed. I will also talk about the pros and cons of using Netflix.

Netflix: Before the Streaming Era

Before Netflix became on of the popular streaming service, we had Blockbuster. As a kid, I would go to Blockbuster for renting games like Nintendo 64 games. It was a simple time and I used to remember seeing Blockbuster had these special stations for people who took pictures in the game Pokemon Snap; I never did it so I missed out. As time passes, we later got rental services such Gamefly and then old fashion Netflix. Back then, Netflix was a rental service where you ordered the movies, get them by the mail and keep them as long as you want. Fast forward in time, Netflix decides to expand their service where you can pay to rend a movie and watch on your computer. You get the idea. Later on, Netflix would later allow subscribers to watch movies on laptops, smart TVs and mobile devices. Companies like Hulu would later join in the subscription service world. To make sure Netflix has the upper hand, they included exclusive shows and movies such as Marvel Netflix shows like Daredevil and 13 Reasons Why. Everyone has their own opinion about Netflix and I am happy to share my thoughts.

Easy and selective viewing

So what kind of shows did I watch from Netflix? For starters, I did get into some really good anime. Thanks to Netflix, I was able to watch shows like Devilman: Crybaby, Violet Evergarden and Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online all in English Dub. Devilman: Crybaby was an anime I thought I would ever enjoy. I was recommended to watch this from someone on Twitter and I was surprised that the anime only had ten episodes. Devilman: Crybaby was one epic ride for ten episodes and it really made me see who was the demon, humans or a devil with a human heart. Devilman: Crybaby in the end made me a crybaby. I also wrote a review on this anime. Violet Evergarden would be the next anime to make me cry. After I heard one of my favorite voice actress was going to be in this anime, I jumped it. Erika Harlacher voices the main character Violet and the anime talks about a young girl raised to fight like a soldier learned how to feel with emotions through writing letters. I wrote both a review and I used this anime as topic for an OWLS post. This anime gave me the ugliest cries and I haven’t cried this much since I seen Clannad. It’s not an Netflix exclusive, but I wanted to watch it in English Dub. The next anime I got into was Sword Art Online Alternative. SAOA was a spinoff anime that took place within the Sword Art Online main story but focused on a different story and new characters. The story would take place in the online shooting MMO game Gun Gale Online where the cute and tiny player Llenn would compete against gun crazy opponents. This anime was pretty good regardless if it didn’t have characters like Kirito and Sinon. This was another anime I wrote a review and used for the OWLS.

Besides anime, I did get into some live action movies and TV shows. I saw the live action movie of the American Death Note movie. I reviewed this movie and I can say that I like the idea it wanted to do, but I feel like it went one step forward and two steps back. This movie really over did it with the blood and gore fatalities; it felt like I was watching a Final Destination movie.

I also took some time to watch some superhero shows. There is a funny story about this because it’s one of the reasons why I wanted to get Netflix. My sister and her husband used Netflix to watch all the episodes of the Flash.. I really like the Flash, so after I got Netflix I ended up watching all the way up to season 1. I then also found another show I got into from the DC universe called The Arrow. The Arrow talk about a rich billionaire named Oliver Queen who uses his skills in survival to rid the corruption of Starling City. This show is what led to other shows to being born like The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow in which this would be called the Arrowverse. Also looking for some vigilante action, I got into watching Daredevil. I remember watching Daredevil the movie years ago with Ben Affleck, but after hearing positive reviews of the TV show, I decided to pay a visit. Daredevil without a doubt, is way better than the 2003 movie. For season 1, this show was dark and violent, but it really shows how Netflix did their best to capture the dark essence of the comics.

Netflix Gripes!

I blame myself for getting high hopes. As someone who first got Netflix, I thought I was given the keys to every show and movies I could possibly imagine like watching all the Marvel movies from Disney and Fox, DC movies like the Christopher Nolan Batman movies or even classic TV shows from Nick, Unfortunately, I was dead wrong. I later found that Netflix doesn’t do that and they can only add certain titles to their list. If you wanted to watch TV shows, I would need Hulu. I also learned that Disney was going to be doing their streaming service as well in which they will also stream Disney movies including Star Wars and Marvel movies. This also means that Disney is going to be removing titles from Netflix once the service begins. One thing that really bugged me is that the infamous news that Netflix cancelled the Marvel TV shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones. I been hearing Daredevil is a successful Marvel TV show and I third season really nailed it. Unfortunately, Netflix had to unplug the show and stop producing the episodes. I don’t know how it works with Netflix and the way they handle the shows, but I can’t help but get annoyed when they have to either stop a show and discontinue it or they pick a TV show and remove it from their subscription. I heard people got angry when Netflix mentioned they either wanted to get rid of Friends or The Office.

Conclusion

Even though I do appreciate the many variety of shows I am given, I do see the trade off from Netflix. I can enjoy my shows without commercials and pick out which catches my eyes. I really like the feeling watching episodes without getting interrupted and I like trying out new titles with ease. The thing that irks me is that Netflix system when handling shows is pretty complicated. I don’t know how they do it, but it just bothers me that they will sometimes cancel a series or they take risks and remove a popular TV show. Either way, I don’t really hate Netflix. I like it, but it’s something I can live without in the same time. I might stick around so I can watch those Nick movies like Rocko’s Modern Life and Invader Zim and hopefully see the Netflix version of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Enjoy streaming!
