Disney XD series Spider-Man plans comeback with new arc!

See the source image

Does anyone remember this cartoon series Marvel Spider-Man? This cartoon appeared in 2017 and it supposed to be a replacement to the finished series Ultimate Spider-Man. It may not be like Ultimate Spider-Man and Spectacular Spider-Man, but it’s Spider-Man! The series is currently on season 2, but the series went on a hiatus that started on August 2018. However, according to Spider-Man voice actor Robbie Daymond, the series is planning to come back and the news site Newsrama states that the series will also be entering new story arcs such as the Superior Spider-Man and the newly introduced Goblin War.

According to VP of Animation and Family Entertainment, Cort Lane made a comment in a interview with Newsrama that with no surprise, the series will continue into the Superior Spider-Man story, but then also it will have Peter Parker come across the story arc known as the Goblin War. They wanted to split these stories into sections these seasons. So far, there is no release date for the return of Marvel Spider-Man.

If you don’t know what is the Superior Spider-Man story, according to the interview, Cort Lane tells that the story is based on a Spider-Man comic book arc where Spider-Man’s enemy Dr. Otto Octavius steals Spider-Man’s body by transferring his mind into Peter’s body and accessing his memories. Peter’s mind is swapped into Otto’s dying body in result. Now that Otto has Peter’s body, he knows about his identity and decides to prove himself that he can be a better Spider-Man by using the powers of Spider-Man combined with justice and his intelligence.

Cort states that the upcoming story and Goblin War arc won’t have the dark elements from the comic books, but it will have some emotional moments where a sacrifice will be made. In the cartoon version, Otto, inside the Living Brain robot, successfully steals Peter’s body and puts Peter’s mind and soul in the destroyed Living Brain robot. This is where the series took the hiatus and this is where Cort focused on other Marvel cartoons like Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel Rising.

Spider-Man season 2 confirmed and dated!

https://i2.wp.com/oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2018/02/MSM-120-PR-4-720x405.png

It’s been a while since we seen the first season of Disney XD series Spider-Man. From learning to use his powers to facing enemies that were once friends, Peter’s life with school and being a hero is no walk around the park. Announced at Comicbook.com, Disney XD will bring the animated series Spider-Man with another season. In this new season, new actors will play as new characters that will affect Peter Parker. Season 2 begins on June 18th on Monday and the first episode will be an hour long and it’s hinted that it will make Spider-Man’s world “upside-down.”

Here is what described according to the site:

Season two will feature higher stakes and epic battles as Spidey faces-off against new heroes and villains, some of which are voiced by exciting guest stars, including Sofia Carson (Disney’s “Descendants”), Booboo Stewart (Disney’s “Descendants”), Nathaniel Potvin (“MECH-X4”), NASCAR racer Ryan Blaney and social media sensation Teala Dunn.

The second season finds Peter Parker in his “sophomore year,” as he’s no longer an inexperienced new superhero nor a brand new student, at the intimidating Horizon High. However, his foes are also no longer inexperienced and his ever-growing Rogue’s Gallery is focused on taking Spider-Man down. Picking up where season one left off, the stakes are much higher in Peter’s personal life and Spider-Man’s superhero life.

He also must learn how to balance working at “The Daily Bugle” to afford tuition at the prestigious Horizon High while surviving Doc Ock’s series of obstacles in an attempt to get rid of Spider-Man once and for all. The action-packed season will continue to touch on Spidey’s relatable themes, including friendship, loyalty and heroism while staying true to its signature sense of comedy.

Spider-Man (2017 TV series) season 1 spoiler-free review

Wikipedia synopsis:

After the death of his Uncle Ben, an intelligent teenager named Peter Parker comes to his own terms of becoming a masked superhero named Spider-Man when he was bitten by a radioactive spider during a school field trip to Oscorp and given spider-like powers.

IMDb synopsis:

An insecure but courageous and intelligent teen named Peter Parker, a new student of Midtown High, is bitten by a radioactive spider and given powers. He becomes a hero named Spider-Man after the death of his uncle and he must adapt to this new way of life.

Since I couldn’t find a good synopsis, I added these two from different sites, but I will also try to give one made by myself with some background information.

Background: Back to basics

This Spider-Man cartoon (I usually call it Spider-Man 2017 since it debuted on TV in 2017), is a new Spider-Man series that replaced the previous running series Ultimate Spider-Man. As Ultimate Spider-Man ended and with the popularity of the movie Spider-Man: Homecoming, it was time for Marvel and Disney to try and create a new series focusing on webhead. To help promote the series and make people easily jump into Spider-Man, Marvel and Disney XD released a six part short titled Origins on YouTube which revealed the origin to Peter Parker’s beginning of Spider-Man. I won’t go into details and if you want to know my opinion on Origins and the first episodes, check it out here on the hyperlink.

My Experience on Spider-Man cartoons

If anyone knows about me, my favorite Marvel hero is Spider-Man. I like the character and his powers and the enemies in the stories, whether it is from the movies, comics or video games. My memory is vague, but I think the only Spider-Man cartoons I seen as a kid was Spider-Man and the Amazing Friends and the fan favorite Spider-Man the Animated Series.

I didn’t get experience other cartoons such as the MTV Spider-Man The New Animated Series (AKA Spider-Man MTV), Spider-Man: Unlimited or everyone’s favorite The Spectacular Spider-Man. I am not sure for myself, but based on what I hear, The Spectacular Spider show that even though it looks like it was designed for kids, it had elements that even adults would like and it combined versions like the Sam Raimi’s movies and the early 1960s comics.

I did try their previous show Ultimate Spider-Man, but I ended up dropping it. Ultimate Spider-Man was the Spectacular Spider-Man’s replacement after it got cancelled. Ultimate Spider-Man took a kid friendly approach to the the Ultimate comics and the show wanted Spider-Man to interact with other Marvel characters and the themes could be somewhat similar to Avengers cartoons. The reason why I dropped it because it wasn’t because it was kid friendly and silly, I felt it wasn’t a “Spider-Man” cartoon. There would be episodes where Spider-Man would either be solo in his adventures or team up with members of Shield; in a way, it felt like it was trying to be like an Avengers version of Spider-Man.

When I first heard about this show, I was a bit iffy, but then when I heard Robbie Daymond (voice of Prompto from Final Fantasy XV or Masked Tuxedo in the new dub for Sailor Moon) and Max Mittleman (voice of Saitama from One-Punch Man) was going to be in this show, I decided to jump into the series. Anyway, sorry for delaying this review, I am going to try and explain my thoughts on this show’s season and if it’s worth it.
