Friday Funny 187: Excelsior

TGIF!

Thank God it’s Friday! Welcome back everyone! This is Matthew from Matt-in-the-Hat and back for another fun filled post filled with positive vibes and funny memes. Oh boy, what a week we have gone through. I hope everyone is doing okay and especially those who are dealing with those deadly campfires. I pray that the fires will officially be gone and I pray for the people suffering over there. Autumn can be a deadly season for fire seasons since it’s a day where wind picks up and trees are dropping dead leaves; it’s a perfect catalyst for starting a wildfire. Some of you guys already know this, but here is a refresher, Marvel comics creator Stan Lee died on November 12 this Monday, a day after Veterans Day. This legendary man started Marvel and even teamed up with amazing artists like Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby and made heroes like the Avengers, Spider-Man, Black Panther and X-Men. He’s also well-known for making cameo appearances in Marvel movies. Doesn’t matter what character plays as, he gets to be in a superhero movie; he could be the mailman, bus driver or just a guy living in New York and he has the chance to experience seeing a superhero in action. I pray for his friends and family and I am proud to be a fan of him. Whether than mourning what is gone, we should be thankful and happy that he left a legacy. This man made our heroes and created a world where heroes exist. Stan Lee is the greatest Marvel hero and I hope one day, I can be like those heroes and make a difference. Besides this news, we also got some interesting movie teaser trailers like the first time ever live action Pokemon movie Detective Pikachu. Detective Pikachu will be voiced by Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds and he will be helping a young man find his dad in world where real Pokemon and humans coexist. Another teaser we get is Toy Story 4. There’s not much but seeing some funny videos, but I hear Toy Story 4 is going to be another emotional roller coaster than Toy Story 3.

Let’s start this Friday and prepare for Thanksgiving next week!

As a way to remember Stan Lee and his legacy, here are some tribute videos I found online.

Little known fact, X-Men: Apocalypse had Stan Lee and his wife Joan Lee as cameos.

Excelsior my friends!

PG-13 Deadpool movie has new title! More than a Christmas cash grab flick?

Hey fans, I got some Marvel news for this upcoming December. The rude and crude merc Deadpool is returning to theaters with a PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2 this December 12th. This new cut version of Deadpool 2 will have a new title fitting for this Christmas season and it will be called “Once Upon a Deadpool.” According to the news, Fred Savage, who is well known for being in “The Princess Bride“, will be involved and will be part of the Deadpool group. According to Ryan Reynolds, actor of Deadpool and Wade Wilson, this PG-13 version movie will be more than just a cash grab and it will be a benefit. He commented that for every ticket purchase, the money will be donated for charity. If you don’t remember, the charity is called F*ck Cancer, but due to the PG-13 movie, it will be called Fudge Cancer. If you want to see Deadpool 2 in a “appropriate rating” and help out for others, go pay and see this new version movie.

Netflix Iron Fist TV series ends on season 2

Marvel may be the biggest franchise in the media when in comes to movies, TV series and comic books, even the most powerful company has a weakness.

I found this news yesterday in a tweet from IGN stating that the Netflix exclusive Marvel series Iron Fist will be canceled.

According to the news, Netflix officially released the second season of Iron Fist and unfortunately, due to the ratings, Netflix will end the series. With this news however, they commented that the character Iron Fist could still be used in other Marvel Netflix series. However it is possible that Netflix could still use Iron Fist in potential team ups or series like Heroes for Hire where Iron Fist teams up with Power Man/Luke Cage or even Daughters of the Dragon with Misty Knight and Colleen Wing.

Did you like Iron Fist or disliked it? I haven’t seen this series yet, but I plan to watch it after I get done with season 1 of Daredevil.

The movies I seen in spring and summer 2018

https://siriuswrites.files.wordpress.com/2018/06/ca2.gif?w=500

Since we are reaching the end of summer, it’s time to prepare for the last two seasons of 2018: fall and winter. With fall coming in, I had a good time with spring and summer. Spring time for me was good because not only I got a job which gives me good pay and a friendly environment, but this is around the time I started to watch a lot movies in theaters. Summer may have been intense in my job, but it was a good time to sit down and have of a bucket of popcorn and watch a movie with the AC in theaters. 2018 has been a great year to watch some movies and it feels like every year it’s going to be even better. Today I am going to be sharing you the movies I have seen in the spring and summer season. Funny how can I keep track of the movie seasons and not anime seasons.

Marvel Avengers: Infinity War (April 27th)

If you are a Marvel fan, you probably already expected this movie to be a hit even after the first weekend. 10 years of building up to this point, Disney and Marvel did the impossible and made the biggest crossover movie. What started off with the first Avengers movie and now in 2018, we have the Avengers teaming up with Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy and even the high selling hero and movie character Black Panther. This movie also placed the spotlight on the anticipated villain Thanos and demonstrated his monstrous power. I really love this movie and I saw this movie right after day one of my job on May 4th; the original release date before it got moved up.

Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th)

Star Wars is very popular in sci-fi genre and it’s dedicated to the fans. Ever since Disney bought Star Wars, Disney has been dishing out everything that has to do with Star Wars. From the video games, TV series, comics, Disney will do anything make money of Star Wars. Besides the main story movies like Episodes 7 and 8, they also squeeze in spinoff movies such as Rogue One. Their recent spinoff movie focused on the young Han Solo and how he met inconic characters like Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca. This movie was different for sure, but in a way, it was fun to watch. I like seeing Han get sassy and try to outsmart his enemies. However, based on reports and news, this movie sadly fell after opening weekend and people wanted to focus on the Episode movies. In results, Disney decided to take a break of spinoff films and are now working on the last movie Episode 9 until someone else decides to make a new trilogy outside the Skywalker story.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6th)

After going through Infinity War, I wanted to take a break from the pain and have a good laugh. Taking place after Captain America: Civil War, Scott is under arrest and doing whatever it takes to kill boredom. When Hank Prym and Hope gets curious of the Quantaum Realm, they decide to make a goal to visit this tiny world in hopes to finding Hank’s wife who disappeared. Scott decides to help him, but this also attracts a villain who goes by Ghost who can phase through walls with technology. In short, she has some quantum powers and she’s seeking cure for this powers. Scott is going to have to shrink and enlarge himself if he wants to not only help Hank and Hope, but also try not to violate his house arrest. This movie also ties into Infinity War as well. I really enjoyed this movie for the humor. My family enjoyed it and we were able to forget the pain left from Infinity War… for a moment. I can’t wait for Ant-Man to show up in the next Avengers movie.

Incredibles 2 (June 15th)

It took about 14 years and we finally got the long awaited sequel to Pixar’s superhero family movie. Brad Bird returns to create another masterpiece and unites the voices of the heroes in this sequel. Taking place right after the first movie, the movie focuses on Elasticgirl (wife of Mr. Incredible) and shows off the awesome hero skills and prove that the world is ready to accept heroes. While the wife is busy, Bob is a stay home dad who has to take care of the kids and their issues like Violet’s boyfriend problem, Dash’s math questions and discovering Jack-Jack’s powers. This movie was so cool and seeing this really gives me the same vibes when I watched the first movie for the first time. This movie was so good that it came back in theaters in the Labor Day weekend.

Christopher Robin (August 3rd)

This movie was a guilty pleasure and the reason why I watched this movie because of nostalgia. If you are familiar with movie Hook with Robin Williams, you might know the central theme. Disney creates a live-action moving depicting an adult Christopher Robin who has forgotten his childhood friends Pooh and the rest of the gang in 100 Acre Woods. After going through life, Christopher has forgotten to have fun and now focuses only on work and succeeding life. It’s not until Pooh shows up to him and asks for help after losing his friends. I will admit, I did cry  while watching this movie. What got me was that the voice of Pooh was done by none other than Jim Cummings and hearing Pooh care about Christopher for years really hit me. It taught me that no matter how old you get, you should never lose your childhood. I also fell in love with the song used for one of the trailers online. The song is called One Foot played by Walk the Moon.

What kind of movies did see in these past months?

Marvel News: Venom might have possible after credits scene and unrated version

We are less than a couple of weeks away for the upcoming Marvel movie Venom. Unlike the other Marvel movies such as the ones from Disney and Fox, Venom is going to be from Sony and it won’t have the character Spider-Man involved with the story. Revealed on Fandango, the director Ruben Fleischer answers questions about the movie and the character of Venom. In one of the questions asked, Fandango asked for a possible unrated version for the home videos of the movie.

Fandango: Do you think you would do an unrated version of it on home release?

Ruben Fleischer: I wouldn’t rule anything out. We’ll have to see where it lands, I guess, but I wouldn’t rule anything out.

Another question is asked if there is a possible post credits scene after the movie.

Fandango: Should people stay for the credits?

Ruben Fleischer: I think it would be a mistake of any superhero movie not to stay through the credits.

These are some of the questions that I found interesting. If you want to read the questions and answers, you can follow the link or tweet to the website. Venom comes out on October 5th 2018 and the actor playing ad Venom/Eddie Brock Jr. is Tom Hardy. Eminem will be involved and make a song for the movie. This movie is already rated PG-13 and it might get an unrated version in home video release. Venom is an antihero in the Spider-Man comics, but this movie won’t be having anything to do with Spider-Man.

The streaming service will be called Disney Play according to what the news appears and the streaming service will begin on 2019. According to IGN, once the Marvel movie Captain Marvel is released in theaters, every Marvel film will be removed from Netflix will be on Disney Play. In regards to MCU movie on Netflix, the last MCU movie that will be on Netflix will be Ant-Man and the Wasp. Disney and Marvel agreed that Netflix exclusives shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones will remain on Netflix and will not be on Disney Play. However, It’s also reported that Star Wars movies and shows that debuts in 2019 and beyond will appear on the service and the movies like The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi will not be on it due to Star Wars belonging to At&T Turner Broadcasting and giving them the rights to broadcast the films. Disney Play will be premiering instead the upcoming Star Wars Clone Wars season 7. Unboxing VANS x Marvel shoes

I have been meaning to do this last week, but better late than never. I don’t usually shop at Tillys or buy VANS shoes, but when I heard Marvel teamed up with VANS and made customed shoes based off of Marvel comic heroes. I got some shoes on Saturday July 14th from the Tillys website on a flash sale. I got the Spider-Man shoes. The box that came with the shoes was something really amazing because the pictures are based on the actual comic books. I really like how VANS took the time to cover this shoe box with iconic characters from the comic books.

The shoes inside was covered with images of Spider-Man from the early comics, in which I believe it is the Steve Ditko’s design. Steve Ditko is a comic artist who worked with Marvel creator and now CEO Stan Lee; he is well-known for creating the heroes Spider-Man and Dr. Stranger.

The shoes felt really great and I was surprised it didn’t have laces. I don’t usually wear VANS so that’s why this felt new to me. Overall, the shoes was good on my feet and I am really happy to have these shoes and show off my favorite hero. In a funny way, I remember as a kid, I always liked wearing shoes with characters on it and now as an adult, I have shoes with a favorite character. I am so glad to get these shoes in a fair price.
