June 2022 Funko Pop Haul

Hello gamers and collectors! I bring you another Funko Pop haul post. I haven’t been collecting much lately because I am trying to do some late spring cleaning and organize my collection. For this post, it’s going to be really short since I only bought one rare figure.

148. Sonic the Werehog (Sonic the Hedgehog series Hot Topic exclusive)

As soon as I saw this on the Hot Topic website, I just had to get him. As a Sonic fan, this was an offer I couldn’t resist. This version of Sonic is him in his Werehog form from the game Sonic Unleashed. Sonic Unleashed is one of those Sonic games that most fans recommend if you want to experience the speed of Sonic and an epic story. This game was made in 2008 and it came out years after titles such as Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic Riders. According to Wikipedia, Sonic Unleashed was going to be a sequel to Sonic Adventure 2 and it was titled Sonic World Adventure, but the team at Sega decided to take a different path for this game. You can play this game even today for for the Xbox Series console and use the backwards compatibility feature. So far there is no update for this game for the PlayStation, PC or Switch unless Sega decides to give this the “Ultimate” treatment like Sonic Colors.

What do you think of the Werehog form? I wish this figure has a flock fuzzy texture.

[Top 10]: My Top favorite 10 Sonic the Hedgehog characters

A lot is happening in the world of Sonic the Hedgehog and the community. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is getting praised in the movie theaters, Netflix fans are in anticipation for the upcoming Sonic Prime series and gamers are overwhelmingly wanting to play the new Sonic Frontiers video game. To take advantage of the Sonic online bandwagon, I want to share with you my top 10 favorite characters in the world of Sonic the Hedgehog.

10. E-123 Omega

See the source image

First introduced in Sonic Heroes, Omega is the last of the E-series robots made by Dr. Eggman. He was deactivated and abandoned by Dr. Eggman. Furious and after being set free from Rouge, Omega seeks vengeance on Eggman for not using his full potential. He would later be part of Team Dark and team up with Shadow and Rouge. Omega is a cool robot. He has many cool weapons and he was fun to play as in Sonic Heroes and Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).

9. Metal Sonic

See the source image

Introduced in Sonic CD, Dr. Robotnik creates a metal counterpart of Sonic the Hedgehog. Metal Sonic is a deadly fast robot that is willing to serve Robotnik and will do anything to surpass his counterpart. Metal Sonic is another robot I like in the series. He is formable opponent for Sonic and with his copying features, Metal Sonic is able to compete against Sonic’s speed. However, despite being a robot made to surpass Sonic, Sonic sees him as a worthy challenger and he is always ready to race with him.

8. Espio the Chameleon

See the source image

First introduced in the Sega 32X game Knuckles Chaotix, Espio the Chameleon is a valuable team member in the Chaotix Detective Agency led by Vector and partnered with Charmy. With his ninja skills and invisibility, he is the stealthiest team member. Espio is my favorite member in the Chaotix. I enjoyed using him in Sonic Heroes and he had an awesome ability to stick oin the walls when jump across areas. I hope Sega would make a game featuring the Chaotix. In regards to Sonic and his connection, he just sees Espio as a cool friend with ninja skills.

7. Rouge the Bat

See the source image

First appeared in Sonic Adventure 2, Rogue is not only a jewel thief, but she is a spy serving for the president of the United Federation. She may act bad, but she is a caring ally. She will sometimes help her teammates like Shadow and Omega or she’ll tease Knuckles and steal his Master Emerald. I had a fun time playing as her in SA2 and in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) game. I always like her kicking skills and I don’t understand why they removed her ability in Sonic 06 and gave her bombs. Despite her always with Shadow, Sonic doesn’t hold anything against her and sees her as a friend.

6. Amy Rose

See the source image

First introduced in Sonic CD, along with Metal Sonic, Amy is a character who loves Sonic and she is his number one fan. Doesn’t matter where he is, she knows how to catch up to him. I got to give her credit, this girl supports Sonic no matter what and she is brave. Whenever you see her in a bad mood, stay away from her hammer. Despite her obsession for Sonic, Sonic considers her a great friend for his adventure.

5. Dr. Eggman

See the source image

Making his first appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 1 (1991) under the name Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Eggman is the greatest evil scientist in the games. This guy invents all his technology and doesn’t give up on his goal of getting his Eggman Empire. When technology doesn’t work, he uses other methods like using supernatural creatures or locked up mysterious for his benefits. Besides being an intimidating enemy, he can be a silly goofball who likes to mess with Sonic and give him a headache. It’s his goal to not only conquer the world, but he wants to outsmart the fastest hedgehog.

4. Miles “Tails” Prower

See the source image

Making his appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992), Tails is Sonic’s trustworthy companion. He’s more than just a sidekick, he is Sonic’s partner and best friend with a little brother personality. Doesn’t matter what’s the circumstances, Tails is there to help Sonic with his technology and his twin tails.

3. Shadow the Hedgehog

See the source image

First appearing in the Dreamcast game Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow is a dark and edgier rival for Sonic. After being asleep for 50 years, Shadow holds a grudge against the humans on Earth for taking his only friend, Maria. After many encounters with Sonic, Shadow would not only be his rival, but also an ally. While Shadow may not be evil, he will do whatever it takes to bring peace and keep his promise to Maria.

2. Knuckles the Echidna

See the source image

Knuckles the Echidna made his appearance in 1994 in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and then coming back again in Sonic & Knuckles. Despite being the strongest, he is also known as a knucklehead for being easily tricked by Dr. Eggman and teased by Rouge. Sonic and Knuckles may have their differences, but when Earth or innocent lives are at stake, it takes the power of Sonic’s speed and Knuckles’ brute force to protect the peace.

1. Sonic the Hedgehog

See the source image

Sonic the Hedgehog made his debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 1 (June 23,1991) for the Sega Genesis. What can I say about this guy? He’s the fastest character in the series who lives to run in top speed and protect all his friends. He also this upbeat attitude which gives his friends hope and enjoys giving a bad time for Dr. Eggman. He always looks at the good side of people and gives others a chance to be friends.

These are my top 10 characters. Who are your choices? Happy Birthday Sonic. Cheers to the fastest and coolest hedgehog on Earth.

Sonic Prime teaser reveal

See the source image

A while back Sega announced that a Sonic the Hedgehog Netflix series is in the works and it was called Sonic Prime. It was announced around the time when Sonic Origins was  announced and Sonic Frontiers was teased. Now, Sega has revealed a teaser video of Sonic Prime by showing us the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog and the animation. The voice of Sonic is going to be Devan Mack.

What do you think of the voice?

Who’s your favorite Sonic the Hedgehog voice?

See the source image

In these past couple of weeks, we have had some exciting Sonic news. We’re getting some new Sonic content in Sega games, an updated remastered version of Sonic Colors and a brand new Sonic project game for 2022. Plus, Netflix is currently working on a brand new animated series called Sonic Prime for next year. Just like the title says, I want to start this fun discussion article with this question: who is your favorite Sonic voice?

Sonic is a very popular character in Sega’s franchise. He first started off in 1991 in the video games, but then later evolved throughout in media such as anime, cartoons, comics and even a live action movie. While there are different versions of Sonic, there is also many voices for this blue hero. When it comes voices, I am more familiar with the video game versions and also the movie from 2020.

Ryan Drummond

Sonic [Voice clips] ~ Ryan Drummond (Sonic Adventure) - YouTube

Making his grand debut in 1998, Ryan lends his voice as Sonic in Sega’s last console, the Dreamcast and in the game Sonic Adventure. As time passes, Ryan would later voice Sonic again in other Dreamcast games such as Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Shuffle. His last roles as Sonic was in 2004 where he voices him again in Sonic Heroes, Sonic Advance 3 and Sega Superstars. I really like his voice and I felt like his voice was fitting. It made Sonic sound confident despite the odds against him. He almost sounds like a leader among his group and he always had his trust on his friends.

Jason Griffith

Sonic X" Sonic vs. Shadow (TV Episode 2005) - IMDb

Another favorite voice I like is Jason Griffith. Ryan’s voice for Sonic didn’t last long, but he did leave an impact for the fans. Jason first started voicing Sonic in 2003 when the anime Sonic X launched in America; in video games he voiced Sonic in 2005 in games such as Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Rush. Not only he did Sonic, but he also voiced Shadow the Hedgehog and Jet the Hawk. Jason voiced in many iconic games such as Sonic 2006, Sonic Unleashed and even the storybook games like The Secret Rings and The Black Knight. According to Wikipedia, his last role as Sonic was in 2010 where he voiced as Sonic in the racing game Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing. For a Sonic game, it was in 2009 where he was in Sonic and the Black Knight and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. Jason’s voice was another great choice for Sonic. Not only for Sonic, but Jason’s voice was in my opinion very versatile. He could either sound like an upbeat hedgehog, a hardcore distant hedgehog or a cocky hawk. I especially like his Werehog voice in Unleashed. Sonic as a Werehog made Sonic sound intimating. As a kid, I always imagine Werehog Sonic sounding like Super Saiyan 4 Goku’s voice.

Roger Craig Smith

Sonic voice actor Roger Craig Smith says it was his decision to retire from the role | Nintendo Wire

Besides voicing Chris Redfield in Resident Evil and Ezio in Assassin’s Creed 2, Roger is currently the blue hedgehog in video games. Making his Sonic game debut, he showed in 2010 and worked on games such as Sonic Generations, Sonic Colors, and Sonic Forces. He also voiced animated series Sonic Boom along with the games with it. Surprisingly in the past news, it was revealed Roger was going to step down as Sonic, but then in a surprise turn of events, he returned in the past weeks. Like the rest, I grew fond of this Sonic voice. Roger’s voice made Sonic sound so cool and made his character feel like he could call your bro. I can’t wait to see what he does in the future in Sonic projects.

Ben Schwartz

See the source image

Not in a video game, this voice made an appearance in 2020. Actor and voice actor Ben Schwartz takes the shoes of Sonic in the big screen. Ben has appeared in TV shows and cartoons such as Parks and Recreation, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the current/reboot Ducktales. I may not have seen/heard all of his works, but I think he fits well as Sonic. His voice is perfect for the teenage Sonic. This Sonic conveys a variety of emotions from being happy and ecstatic to scared and concerned. This voice shows that Sonic is young and inexperienced in the movie where he is excited to learn everything, but whole also showing negative emotions when he deals with loneliness. I can’t wait to hear Ben’s voice again in the sequel.

These are my favorite voices for Sonic. Which ones are your favorites?
