FUNimation news: The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya film gets licensed!

If you haven’t heard in social media, I got great news for you.

According to FUNimation, they have confirmed that they obtained the license to the anime film “The Disappearance to Haruhi Suzumiya”. This anime will be sold on DVD and Blu-Ray somewhere in 2017. The film is based on the fourth volume of the light novel and the time length is 163 minutes. Here is the plot:

In the story, it is mid-December, and SOS Brigade chief Haruhi Suzumiya announces that the Brigade is going to hold a Christmas party in their clubroom. The brigade members Kyon, Yuki Nagato, Mikuru Asahina and Itsuki Koizumi start preparing for the party, but a couple of days later, Kyon arrives at school to find that Haruhi is missing. Not only that, but Mikuru claims she has never known Kyon before, Koizumi is also missing, and Yuki has become the sole member of the literature club…

The anime film was recently owned by Bandai Entertainment and was sold in DVD and Blu-Ray format in 2011.

Also in old news if you have been under a rock, FUNimation also obtained the rights to the entire Haruhi Suzumiya anime!

FUNimation news: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya home video details UPDATE

FUNimation licensed the anime “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” back at 2014 and now they announced the details of the new home video version of the anime.

Announced today and from their site, FUNimation announced that fans can preorder the special 1oth anniversary of “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” DVD and Blu-Ray set. The anime will be out on September 13. According to ANN, you can imput a safe password to buy your copy and the password is “snowwhite”, a reference to the anime. According to the details, the set will include seasons 1 and 2. Season 2 is the “re-broadcasted” of the 2009 version. A guide is included to help viewers on how to watch the anime in non-linear,broadcasted (season 1) and chronological order (season 2).

FUNimation is also selling a special “Ultimate Collector’s Edition” which includes the following:

  • The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya seasons 1 +2: 28 episodes
  • The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya: 25 episodes
  • Nyoron! Churuya-san: 13 episodes
  • The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan: 16 episodes

They have other bonuses in it but I will let you guys look at it.

To those who don’t know about this series, the anime is based off of the light novels created by Nagaru Tanigawa and Noizi Ito. The anime was originally licensed by Bandai Entertainment and Kyoto Animations did the animation for the anime. There is a 2010 anime film titled “The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya” and it’s still licensed by Bandai Entertainment.

Here is the anime plot:

The series centers on the titular Haruhi Suzumiya, a girl who is bored of her regular life, but unknowingly changes the world through her thoughts and emotions. She befriends her cynical classmate Kyon, who founds the “SOS Brigade” club in their school, which proceeds to attract three seemingly normal people, but in reality are an alien, a time traveler, and an esper. Together with Kyon, they continue to indulge Haruhi’s wild fantasies, while trying to prevent her from destabilizing reality.


FUNimation also announced that the upcoming spin-off series “The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan” will include an OVA episode in the individual DVD and Blu-Ray set and Ultimate Edition.

Taking place in the alternate reality of the world Nagato created, everyone finds themselves in different situations. Yuki Nagato, who is not an alien but a cute, shy bookworm is desperate to keep the Literature Club alive. With the help of her best friend Ryoko Asukura, who is no longer a psychotic killer and Kyon, a very sarcastic guy who is still very sarcastic whether he’s in the old world or the new one, do all they can to help Yuki. Later on in the story, Yuki meets Mikuru Asahina, a cute moe blob and Tsurya-san who is Mikuru’s best friend, along with Haruhi Suzumiya who is an eccentric girl with an interest in aliens, time travelers, and espers, and Itsuki Koizumi, a “mysterious” transfer student who attends the same school as Haruhi. The seven not only hang out together, but do all they can to help Yuki have hope and also help her blossom in personality.
